Sacramento Bloggers descended on the alley-turned-patio of Hock Farm Craft & Provisions (otherwise known as Church Key)  last week to hold our June mixer. Church Key and Hock Farm are located in the place formally occupied by Spataro on L St.

As we understand it, the space between two buildings was literally converted into a bar and on the weekends, becomes the bottled cocktail epicenter of Sacramento.

They had a special “trough” for us, including a specially named drink called the #CaptainsBlog, complete with hashtag sign and everything — very clever.

Bloggers enjoyed appetizers from Hock Farm including various crostinis and grilled shrimp – simply delicious!

That last one there featured fruit grown by Sacramento’s Waldorf School.

Manager Shaun Freeman talked about Church Key’s beginnings (they’ve only been open for a few weeks)…

…and how he’s just starting to grow hops along the walls.

He also features his own recipe for White Hot Peach Sangria on the menu, provided samples for everyone and causing a brief cell-phone driven paparazzi scene for which we bloggers can be known.

And congratulations to Beka (seen below on the left with fellow blogger Janna) who won the Paragary’s gift card giveaway – yay!

Historical Trivia Nugget: Hock Farm is named after John Sutter’s Hock Farm, the first large-scale agricultural settlement in Northern California, named for the local indigenous Nisenan Hock tribe. A monument is all that remains of the original Hock Farm and you can read more about it in the Appeal-Democrat, or on Wikipedia.

Also….many thanks to Church Key and Hock Farm for hosting such a fun event!
